Thaler v. Perlmutter
Stephen Thaler listed his Creativity Machine as the sole author of an image, A Recent Entrance to Paradise. On March 18, 2025, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit affirmed the Copyright Office: the Copyright Act requires a human author. The court did not decide whether Thaler himself could be the author, because that argument was not preserved.
